The F5 in the name comes from the classification given to the most powerful tornados on the planet on the Fujita scale. Like the storm, the Venom F5's claim to fame is its speed, with Hennesey Performance claiming a top speed of 301mph (484kph), which would make it the first road car with a top speed of over 300mph.

There are three major reasons behind the Venom F5's insane top speed - power, lightness and low coefficient of drag. Providing the power is a 7.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that cranks out 1,600bhp and 1,763Nm of torque which is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed single-clutch gearbox that is operated using paddle shifters.

Unlike the Venom GT, which was based on a Lotus Exige, the F5 has been built from the ground up by Hennessey Performance.

The Texas-based tuning house has built the Venom F5's body from carbon-fibre, which means that the hypercar weighs in at just 1,338kg.

The Venom F5 has a power to weight ratio of 1196bhp/tonne. The carbon-fibre body of the Venom F5 is also extremely aerodynamically efficient with a drag coefficient of just 0.33.

DriveSpark Thinks!

The arrival of the Hennessey Venom F5 means that the war games in the quest to be the fastest car in the world have been reignited with a blow torch.

However, if Hennessey's predictions do come true and the Venom F5 claims the title of the world's fastest car, hitting the refresh button may be the only option left for Bugatti to get its throne back.
