Recently, Volvo revealed that its performance division, Polestar, will become a standalone brand that will focus on building electric cars. Polestar will no longer wear Volvo badging and will make performance oriented EVs.

Now, as per latest reports by Autocar, details suggest that Polestar cars will be based on Volvo platforms, and the first car to roll off the production line would be a 600bhp electric coupe. Also, reports reveal that not all Polestar cars will be electric, but will consist hybrid vehicles as well.

There is no clue as to when the first cars will go on sale, but Polestar could showcase models at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Till date, Polestar was the performance division of Volvo, similar to BMW's M division. Going forth, Polestar will compete with bigger, established brands internationally and will have a lot to live up to.
