Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has issued a massive recall of 1.33 million vehicles worldwide over two separate issues.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has issued a massive recall of 1.33 million vehicles worldwide over two separate issues.
FCA stated that it is recalling around 7,70,000 SUVs over wiring issue which causes the deployment of the driver-side airbag. The issue has caused minor injuries, but no crashes were reported.
FCA said that the wiring might come in contact with the steering wheel trim, which may cause a short-circuit and deploy the driver-side airbag. The recall affects 5,38,000 Dodge Journey vehicles sold in North America, manufactured between 2001 to 2015.
The recall also affects 2,33,000 Fiat Freemont crossovers. The dealers will replace the wiring and install an additional protective covering.
FCA has also issued another recall over alternator issue. The company has stated that hot temperature might result in premature diode wear which causes burning smell or smoke. The issue could also affect the ABS or lead to engine stall.
The recall affects Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger and Dodge Durango SUV produced between 2011 to 2014 and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs manufactured between 2012 to 2014.
DriveSpark Thinks!
The airbag is a vital safety equipment in a vehicle. But when an airbag activates unnecessarily, it may lead to injuries. So, FCA has issued a massive recall to rectify the issue. But the manufacturers should avoid such recalls by focusing on the quality of the components.
