German automaker Daimler has been accused of selling over 1 million cars with excessive emissions in the European and US market.

Sueddeutsche Zeitung, a newspaper has reported this news after a warrant issued by a Stuttgart court. Two months ago, Stuttgart prosecutors investigated the Daimler websites in Germany.

The investigations were done after Daimler was alleged of false advertising and manipulation of the exhaust gas treatment system in its diesel cars.The local court's search warrant triggered the investigations on May 23, 2017.

As per the warrant document, over 1 million cars were sold with excessive emissions which also includes several Mercedes-Benz models. The cars were retailed in Europe and the United Sates between 2008 to 2016.

The cars sold with excessive emissions are powered by engines codenamed as OM 642 and OM 651. The prosecutors are investigating a possible use of defeat device to hide emission levels while testing.

If Daimler had been involved in such practice, the affected vehicles could be banned in Europe. But a spokesman from Daimler declined to comment on the issue and said that it's just a speculation.
