Continental Join Forces With BMW, Intel And Mobileye For Self-Driving Platform
Continental said it would join as a system integrator and play a significant role in commercialising the new self-driving platform.
German auto parts and tyre manufacturer, Continental announced that it will join a self-driving platform developed by BMW, Intel and Mobileye and will handle integration of components and software.
The costs to integrate hardware, software and data and the increasing pace of development of autonomous vehicles have sparked a burgeoning number of partnerships between automakers and suppliers.
Continental said it would join as a system integrator and play a significant role in commercialising the new self-driving platform.
"We can meet the steep demands of autonomous driving through an industry-wide collaboration more comprehensively, rapidly and at lower costs than by going alone," Chief Executive Elma rDegenhart said in an emailed statement.
In 2017, BMW joined forces with U.S. chipmaker Intel and Mobileye, the Israeli vision system and mapping expert on the self-driving platform, which is marked for production in 2021. Delphi Automotive, an auto parts maker, has since entered the tie-up.
In April 2017, Germany's Daimler made a similar collaboration with supplier Robert Bosch to promote the development of self-driving vehicles.
