Bugatti Chiron Sets A Menacing New World Record

The Bugatti Chiron accelerated from 0 - 400 - 0km/h in a world record 41.96 seconds.

The Bugatti Chiron broke the previous production car record for the fastest 0-400kph-0 run, achieving the feat in 41.96sec. Behind the wheel was none other than former Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya.

Bugatti plans to demonstrate the Chiron's top speed in 2018 when the new 1479bhp hypercar is expected to be faster than the 431km/h recorded in the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport seven years ago. In this record, the Chiron hit a top speed of 400km/h in just 32.6 seconds and covered 3,112 meters (10,209 feet).

Bugatti revealed an interesting fact during the run, Montoya did not actually have the safety gear regularly used while attempting such attempts, be it a racing suit, helmet, and/ or a head and neck support.

Montoya said, "Of course, the Chiron is a super sports car that requires your full attention when you are behind the wheel. At the same time, it gave me such a feeling of security and reliability that I was entirely relaxed and really enjoyed myself during my two days with the car."

The record run was part of a master plan to take down the world record for the fastest production car scheduled to be held in 2018. The speed to beat would have to be 431km/h achieved by an unrestricted Veyron 16.4 Super Sport back in 2010, though you should know that the Veyron World Record Edition (WRE) that came after the record-breaking run was capped at 415km/h.
