Audi Reveals e-tron FE04 Formula E Car
Audi has revealed its first all-electric race car for the Formula E championship, named as e-tron FE04.
German automaker Audi has revealed its first all-electric race car for the Formula E championship, named as e-tron FE04.
After acquiring the ABT Sportsline team, Audi became the first German manufacturer to enter the all-electric racing series. The new team is named as Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler.
The e-tron FE04 features a powertrain which includes an electric motor, transmission, parts of the suspension and necessary software. The powertrain has been developed in collaboration with Schaeffler.
The transmission is a single-speed unit developed for high efficiency. The engineers have also focused on the design of the motor-generator to deliver exceptional performance. The car sports a new white, black and green livery.

Head of Audi Motorsport, Dieter Gass said, "Together with our technology partner Schaeffler, we have developed a completely new powertrain. You can immediately tell this by looking at the new carbon housing of the powertrain. The car also sounds different because we're pursuing new avenues in technology."
Team Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler has retained the current driver lineup which includes world champion Lucas di Grassi and Daniel Abt. Both the drivers have achieved 24 podiums, six victories and four pole positions.
Apart from that Audi has also announced its new team principal, three-time Le Mans winner Allan McNish. The e-tron FE04 will make its debut in the opening race of the 2017/2018 season in Hong Kong on December 2, 2017.

Audi has borrowed the e-tron moniker which was used in its LMP1 car. The German automaker is the first work's team in Formula E, it will be joined by BMW in 2019. The Formula E car features new technology developed in-house by Audi.
