Top 10 Most Powerful Cars Of 2016 — The Horsepower Maniacs That Dominated The Year
Read on to see 10 of the most powerful production cars that rocked our horsepower crazy world in 2016.
The year 2016 has been a crazy car for cars in India and across the world with pollution, recalls, car bans, and thankfully horsepower dominating the headlines. So let us take a look back at the Top 10 Most Powerful Cars of the crazy year that was 2016.
Please take note that we are ignoring concept cars, and street legal modified maniacs, so please try not to be disappointed if you don't spot that turbocharged, methanol drinking car from Ken Block on this list.
10. Mercedes-AMG E63 S - 604bhp
When AMG got their hands on the calm and sensible Mercedes-Benz E-Class, we knew something wild was set to hit the streets.
However, what emerged out of the AMG skunkworks was the most powerful road-going Mercedes-AMG car of all time. The Mercedes-AMG E63 S made its debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
The Mercedes AMG E63 S uses the same 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 found in the AMG GT R but the engineers have tinkered about with the manic engine so it now kicks out 604bhp and 850Nm of torque which is sent to all four wheels.
That's enough for a 0-100km/h time of 3.4 seconds (the quickest AMG of all time) and a top speed of 299Km/h.
9. McLaren MSO HS - 679bhp
The limited run McLaren MSO HS (only 25 cars will ever be made)is a bonkers version of the mental 675LT coupe and is inspired by the P1 and features more carbon fibre and a fixed wing.
McLaren Special Operations (MSO) the bespoke specialists at Woking have tweaked the 675LT's 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 so that it now produces 679bhp and 700Nm of torque which is sent to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox.
8. Ferrari GTC4Lusso - 681bhp
Coming just ahead of the mental McLaren on our list is Ferrari's answer to its customers wanting a four-seater to drive the family around. The replacement for the FF (which we still think was a better name) was revealed at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
The new GTC4Lusso is powered by a 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 that produces 681bhp and 697Nm of torque which catapult the Ferrari family car to 100km/h from standstill in 3.4 seconds on to a top speed of 335km/h.
Ferrari also revealed a V8 powered variant called the GTC4Lusso T at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
7. Lamborghini Aventador S - 730bhp
Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini decided that the original Aventador LP 700-4 which was introduced in 2011 was getting a bit dated and came up with the Aventador S, a supercar that sits halfway between the original car and the insane nutjob that is known as the Aventador LP 750-4 SV.
The new Aventador S is powered by a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 that produces 730bhp (up by 40bhp from the original Aventador) and 690Nm of torque which is sent to all four wheels through a 7-speed automatic gearbox.
0 - 100km/h takes just 2.9 seconds and the Aventador S tops out at 349km/h.
6. Lamborghini Centenario - 760bhp
Lamborghini decided to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of its founder Ferruccio Lamborghini in the only way they could by revealing a bonkers limited run supercar called the Centenario at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
The Centenario LP 770-4 is powered by Lamborghini's manic 6.5-litre V12 that kicks out 760bhp and 690Nm of torque which is sent to all four wheels. The Centenario will sprint from 0-100km/h in just 2.8 seconds and has a top speed in excess of 350km/h.
Unfortunately for the rest of us mortals, all 40 Centenarios (20 coupes and 20 roadsters) had found owners before the car debuted in Geneva.
5. Tesla Model S P100D - 762bhp
Tesla unveiled the Model S P100D as the replacement of the bonkers P90D and the new flagship Tesla EV has a range of 507 kilometers thanks to a new 100kWh battery pack, but it wasn't this figure that most Tesla fans were looking for.
The Tesla Model S P100D produces 762bhp and is capable of sprinting from 0 - 60mi/h (96.5km/h) in just 2.5 seconds, which gives the craziest Model S the title of the fastest accelerating production car in the world.
That sprint time is set to come down by a 0.1 second after Tesla starts sending out a software update for the car in January.
4. Pagani Huayra BC - 789bhp
Pagani's Huayra is one of the most manic hypercars on the planet but when the carmaker's Horacio Pagani decided he wanted to honour his late friend and his first ever customer Benny Caiola, he penned this mad thing.
Called the Pagani Huayra BC, the limited run car is the craziest car to have ever left Pagani's headquarters in San Cesario sul Panaro, Italy.
The Huayara BC is powered by Mercedes-AMG's manic 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 that cranks out 789bhp and astonishing 1,000Nm of torque all of which is sent to the rear wheels through a 7-speed sequential gearbox.
The BC weighs 132 kilos less than the standard car and while performance figures have not been revealed they are expected to be quite similar to the regular car (0-100km/h - 2.9 seconds, Top Speed - 370km/h+).
3. Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta - 950bhp
Ferrari decided that the best way to celebrate its 70th anniversary was to lop off the roof of its insane LaFerrari hybrid hypercar.
The result: the LaFerrari Aperta, a drop top car with more than 10 times more power than the regular hatchbacks plying on our roads today.
The LaFerrari Aperta uses the same mid-mounted 6.3-litre V12 engine which is mated to F1-spec KERS system that sends 950bhp and 900Nm of torque to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox.
Performance figures are similar to the coupe with the sprint to 100km/h taking less than three seconds and a top speed of 350km/h.
1. (tie) Koenigsegg Regera - 1,479bhp
Swedish hypercar manufacturer Koenigsegg isn't a carmaker that rests on its laurels for long and its latest car, the successor to the insane One:1 is the beautiful beast called the Regera (Swedish for 'to rule') which was revealed at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
The Regera uses a 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine and three electric motors to produce a 1,479bhp and 2,000Nm of torque.
The Koenigsegg Regera can hit 100km/h from standstill in 2.8 seconds, 200km/h in 6.6 seconds, 300km/h in 10.9 seconds and 400km/h in 20 seconds and has an estimated top speed of around 402km/h.
1. (tie) Bugatti Chiron - 1,479bhp
Bugatti's replacement for the record-shattering Veyron was unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Called the Chiron, the latest hypercar from the Volkswagen Group's crazy French speed demons is as mad as they come.
The Chiron is powered by a 8.0-litre quad turbo W16 that produces 1,479bhp and 1,600Nm of torque which is sent toa ll four wheels. The newest Bugatti will sprint from 0 - 100km/h in under 2.5 seconds and has an electronically-limited top speed of 420km/h.
Bugatti plans to take the Chiron to Volkswagen's top secret Ehra-Lessien high-speed test track in the future to allow the latest Bugatti a chance to claim the top speed record (431km/h) for production cars set by the Veyron Super Sport in 2010.
