NextEV's NIO EP9 Is The Electric Hypercar Of Your Dreams
NextEV has unveiled its all-electric NIO EP9 hypercar which broke the Nurburgring lap record.
Chinese electric carmaker NextEV, best known for running a Formula E team has unveiled the insane NIO EP9 hypercar.
The NIO EP9 does seem to borrow most of its look from most Koenigseggs you'll see on the road, but it does have the numbers to match the manic Swedes as well.
Powering the NIO EP9 is a 777V electric powertrain capable of delivering 1,341bhp and 1,480Nm of torque thanks to four on-board motors with a separate gearbox each serving each wheel.
The NIO EP9 electric hypercar will accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 2.7 seconds. 200km/h takes just 7.1 seconds while 300km/h is reached in a mind bending 15.9 seconds. The top speed of the hyper EV is 313km/h.
The NIO EP9 will cover a quarter mile in just 10.1 seconds at a speed of 250km/h and on October 12, the electric hypercar broke the Nurburgring lap record for electric cars with a time of 7:05.12 which is just over 7 seconds slower than the Porsche 918 Spyder.
Despite featuring a chassis built to LMP1 standards and the usage of Carbon-fibre, the EP9 still weighs in at a portly 1,735 kilograms thanks to the 635 kilograms of batteries it carries around.
The batteries though can push the electric hypercar around for over 427 kilometers before they need to be charged up which takes just 45 minutes.
The NIO EP9 features quite a bit of aero to keep it glued to the ground while cornering including a full length floor diffuser, a front adjustable splitter geared for cornering downforce, and an active rear wing with three positions.
All this together helps the NIO EP9 can generate 24,000 Newtons of downforce, which is twice as much as a Formula 1 car and the car claims to generate 3G of force in the corners.
If you want one of the six cars that have been built, you're out of luck as all six will be given to the founding investors of NextEV and will used to promote the brand as it prepares to launch an affordable electric car next year.
