The Lightest Lotus Ever Made—Elise 250 Special Edition
Lotus, the British car manufacturer has introduced the Elise 250 Special Edition, one of the few unique carmakers that celebrate 50 years since the company started the factory in Hethel.
The new Special Edition Elise is only weighs 899kg. The engineers have worked hard to redesign more parts to be built from aluminium or carbon fibre. A composite front splitter, rear wing, tailgate and front access panel are offered as standard.
The Elise 250 is powered by a 1.8-liter supercharged engine, delivering the maximum power of 239bhp at 7,200 rpm and 241Nm of torque between 3,500 and 5,500 rpm. The special edition Elise achieves a power-to-weight ratio of 270 ponies per metric tonne (3.69kg per bhp).
Lotus chief executive Jean-Marc Gales said, "As the Elise was perceived, designed, engineered and is built at Hethel, we wanted a 50th tribute that is even lighter than the fastest road-going Elise we have ever produced."
The Special Edition Elise 250 tested at the company's Hethel test track in just 1 minute 34 seconds, creating a new record for a production street-legal Elise. Its upgraded braking and suspension components took it from the Elise Cup 250.
Only 50 cars will be produced, with a selection of four body colours. An optional carbon-fiber hardtop roof panel is available, along with black wheels instead of the standard silver rim
The Special Edition package will cost £47,900 (Rs. 42 lakhs).
