Continental To Locally Produce ABS & ESC In Gurgaon, India
The Indian Government plans on implementing safety features like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) in all vehicles as soon as possible. Even vehicle owners are realising the importance of these safety features.
Continental has announced that it will commence local production of their automotive ABS and ESC technology. The safety features for vehicles will be manufactured at Continental's facility in Gurgaon, Haryana. Currently, the focus will only be on four-wheelers and production for two-wheelers will commence soon.
Delivery of the very first safety products will be done by 2016-end. Production at the all-new Bangalore facility is expected to begin by 2018. A leading automobile manufacturer is expected to make use of the locally produced ABS and ESC.
Over 1,27,000 Indians were injured during 2014 with the use of two-wheelers. 32,524 individuals lost their lives in a road accident on two-wheelers during 2014. All motorcycles above 125cc will have to compulsorily be fitted with ABS by April 1, 2018.
