Bosch Launches myDriveAssist Road Sign App

By Santosh

In our country, we rarely pay heed to road signs. It's understandable, because signage here is a joke. There are no signs for the most part, and even when there are, they are ridiculously placed, confusing, or defy logic. However, this isn't the case in a developed country like Germany.

 bosch launches mydriveassist app

German engineering and electronics company Bosch has released an app called myDriveAssist for smartphones that recognise and process road signs and other information on the road. Data is collected on the road, analysed by a central server, and sent back to the application.

Speed limits and other data are read on the smartphone through the phone's camera. The app warns drivers of crossing the limit, no overtaking zones and cancellation signs both visually and acoustically.

The new app is available free of cost on the App Store or Google Play Store. While there may not be too much point using the app here in India at the moment, we hope that our country will strive towards better road signage so precious lives can be saved. After all, we lose over 200,000 people a year on our deadly tarmac.
