Volvo S60 Polestar & V60 Polestar Production Models Revealed

Polestar, the motorsports and performance tuning division of Volvo has revealed the production versions of the Volvo S60 sedan and V60 wagons. Based on the standard S60 & V60 T6 trim, the Polestar version offer more power, more performance, with the promise of more fun.

Both the S60 & V60 Polestar are powered by the 3.0 liter, turbocharged, straight six cylinder T6 engines from the standard cars. But Polestar has remapped the ECU, improved air intake and added a 2.5 inch stainless steel sports exhaust system. The beefed-up engine develops 345 HP at 5700 rpm and 500 Nm of torque right from 2800 rpm.

The engine is paired with a six speed automatic transmission, driving all four wheels through Polestar's Haldex all-wheel drive system. Both the S60 & the V60 Polestar are equipped with paddle shifters.

It's not just brute power that makes the cars special. Also part of the equation is the aero kit. Both the Polestar tuned sedan and wagon wear front bumpers with splitters, rear spoiler (roof mounted in case of the wagon), rear diffuser and 20 inch alloy wheels.

The S60 Polestar and the V60 Polestar can both go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds and have a limited top speed 250 km/h.

But hold on, the improvements are go deeper than a more powerful engine and some aero. The engineers at Polestar have taken care to improve the handling and feel of the cars as well by the way of equipping them with high performance Öhlins shocks, 14.6 inch Brembo disc, with six piston calipers and springs which are 80 percent stiffer than before.

The end result is a sedan and a wagon which are "enjoyable on everything from your favourite winding roads to taking the family for a long journey, no matter summer or winter," in Polestar racing and test driver Robert Dahlgren's own words.

"All in all we have taken a major step forward in all areas, from chassis and engine to interior and exterior details. Development work has been focused on the overall package in order to create a car that you want to use every day, both from a practical and emotional perspective," said Henrik Fries, S/V60 Polestar Technical Project Manager.

Volvo V60 Polestar and S60 Polestar will go on sale next year in Canada, the Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the USA.
