The Toyota Innova Hycross has undergone quite a transformation from the Innova we've all known and loved. Toyota decided to take inspiration from its SUV lineup and the new Innova Hycross looks more like a sports utility vehicle than its predecessors ever did.
The front section stands upright and the large hexagonal grille with chrome surrounds is flanked on either by wraparound headlights with triple LED lights. Lower on the front section of the Innova Hycross are triangular cutouts which play host to the LED DRLs that also act as the turn signals. Lower on the bumper just above the silver faux bash plate sit the fog lights.
The sides of the Innova Hycross feature chunky wheel arches that can house wheels up to 18 inches in diameter. The A, B, and C are all blacked out while the lower section of the window line features chrome.
At the rear, the Innova Hycross sports sleek LED taillights which feature chrome surrounds and are also linked together by a strip of chrome underneath which sits the Toyota badge. Also seen is the faux bash plate which sits on the lower edge of the rear bumper.
Step inside the new Toyota Innova Hycross and you'll be greeted by a luxurious cabin with a multi-layered dashboard covered by quite a bit of soft-touch material. The central section of the dash sports a large 10.1-inch infotainment system underneath which sit the controls for the multi-zone HVAC system. The gear lever has been mounted high onto the dash and which frees up more space at the front.
The infotainment system is connected to a premium 9-speaker JBL audio system and features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and also allows you to access Toyota's i-Connect connected car suite that adds over 65 features.
The seats feature leather upholstery finished in a dark chestnut finish. The front seats are ventilated units with the driver's seat featuring electric adjustment. The central captain seats feature an ottoman function that takes luxury and comfort to a whole new level. The third row of seats is very comfortable as well.
The Innova Hycross also gets a host of safety tech including 6 airbags, vehicle stability control, hill start assist, a reverse parking camera, front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree camera.
The Toyota Innova Hycross is offered with two powertrain choices - a petrol and a petrol-electric hybrid. The pure petrol version of the Innova Hycross uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 172bhp and 205Nm of peak torque. The pure petrol version of the Innova Hycross comes paired with a CVT gearbox that sends power to the front wheels.
The other powertrain option is a petrol-electric hybrid with a 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle engine and an electric motor that is connected to a lithium-ion battery pack. The hybrid powertrain of the Innova Hycross develops a combined peak power output of 186bhp which is sent to the front wheels via an e-CVT gearbox.
The Toyota Innova Hycross with the 2.0-litre petrol engine delivers a mileage of 16.13 km/l. The Innova Hycross Hybrid, on the other hand, delivers a mileage of 23.24 km/l (all figures are as per ARAI testing).
The Toyota Innova Hycross comes packed with a host of features including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems from the firm's Safety Sense suite which includes the likes of dynamic cruise control, lane trace assist, blind spot monitoring, and pre-collision warning. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, rear sunshades, electrochromic IRVM, and a powered tailgate.
The Toyota Innova has gone up to a whole new level of brilliance in its latest Hycross guise. With its SUV-like looks, new powertrains and luxurious interior, Innova India's best-known MPV has turned into an all-rounder that will put fear into the hearts of Toyota's rivals.
