The Toyota Innova Crysta has been in the Indian market for over a decade. The MPV was introduced as a replacement to the Qualis and has gone through a number of updates over the years. However, it still continues to remain the most popular MPV of choice in the country.
In terms of design, the Toyota Innova Crysta is offered with a completely different design from its early models. The Innova Crysta now comes with a much sharper contemporary design, which gives it a more muscular stance.
The front fascia of the Toyota Innova Crysta receives a prominent hexagonal grille, with two thick chrome-slats which seamlessly integrate with the smoked-projector headlamps and the LED DRLs. The lower part of the grille comes with a gloss black finish, integrating the air intake as well. The front bumper is also sharper and houses the clear fog lamps on either end.
The side profile of the Toyota Innova Crysta is clean and uncluttered. The only noticeable features are the 17-inch alloy wheels and the subtle chrome accents on the door handles and the ORVMs. The rear profile features a slab-like set of wrap-around tail lights, along with a roof-mounted spoiler and a shark-fin antenna, which helps continue the premium look and feel of the MPV.
Inside, the Toyota Innova Crysta features a blacked-out dashboard with faux wood elements. There is also a decent amount of chrome around the centre console, AC vents and the steering wheel, adding to the premium feel in the cabin. The entire cockpit on the Innova Crysta is slightly tilted towards the driver, giving a more engaging feel for the driver.
The Toyota Innova Crysta is offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. This includes a single petrol engine in the form of a 2.7-litre unit producing 165bhp and 245Nm of torque.
The diesel versions on the other hand, receive a choice of two engine options: a 2.4-litre unit churning out 150bhp and 343Nm of torque and a 2.8-litre engine returning 175bhp and 360Nm of torque. Both engines come mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed sequential automatic.
The Toyota Innova Crysta is a bulky MPV, however, none of the three engine options feel out of breadth either in city traffic or out on the highway. The MPV will take a while to move maneuver around the city, but feels completely at home on the highway.
The engine do a good job, powering the Innova Crysta over three-digit speeds and can also maintain this without breaking a sweat. Also due to the weight of the car, the Innova Crysta does feel extremely planted and stable on a straight stretch of the highway. However, pull into a corner and there is noticeable amount of body roll, enough to make you want to slow down hesitantly. Also, the Toyota Innova Crysta does have a lot of vibrations while the NVH levels could have been better as well.
The Toyota Innova Crysta offered in both petrol and diesel comes with a fuel tank capacity of 65 and 55-litres, respectively. Toyota claims a mileage of around 13 - 15km/ for both the petrol and diesel depending on the variant, transmission and the fuel type.
