Looking To Buy The Tata Tiago: Let's Look At Some Of The Pros & Cons
Tata is looking to regain its lost ground in the small hatchback segment with the launch of Tiago. Does the Tata Tiago have all the ingredients to be a best seller? Let us go through some of the pros and cons.
Disadvantages
The company has suffered due to its build quality in its previous cars, here, the Tiago has made much progress, however, the plastics and the overall quality could have been engineered better.
We expect the diesel variant to have some noise levels, here the petrol to suffers from noise especially when you start the engine, Tata should have worked on it giving its Land Rover ownership. They could have used their expertise and provide the best of technology on the Tiago.
A closer look at the interior reveals some quality issues like the AC vents, which do not fully close. By looking into the minute details, Tata can re-establish themselves as a high stake manufacturer.
One of the main issue with performance is the narrow powerband of the diesel engine which is at 1,800rpm to 3,000rpm. The car suffers at the time when you want the hatchback to give you the required push.
Advantages
Tata has scored many points when it comes to some of the pros of the small hatchback, let's look at some of them.
On the safety front, the Tiago will be offered with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and Corner Stability Control. The company is late to these features as most of the manufacturers are offering it in their cars, however, Tata is making sure that they too are in sync with the customer's preferences.
The interiors and the overall look of the car have been designed to attract young buyers and it's a quantum leap from some of its previous cars. The petrol variant is peppy and the performance has been well thought out by Tata. The diesel too is great to drive.
Features & Specifications
One of the mainstays of a Tata car is its spacious offering, they have made the Tiago with good amount cabin space and the air conditioning compliments it well.
The audio system is by Harman/Juke-Car app, which is the best in the segment, in fact, even a sub-20 lakh car would struggle to match the performance.
Your reverse parking is taken care by sensors and a camera which is displayed on the infotainment system, a good initiative by Tata to provide premium touch to the car.
One of the unique features of the car is the clutch lock, you will need to depress it to start the car, otherwise, the car wouldn't start.
The NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) is lower too in the diesel variant, this is a great improvement from their older cars.
The Tiago will come in petrol (Revotron) and diesel (Revotorq), which will be powered by 1.2-litre petrol engine and 1.1-litre diesel engine.

Verdict
The Tata Tiago is a fresh approach from the company and they have packaged it well and they have indeed made progress in developing the small hatchback.
The Tiago will compete against Ford Figo, Maruti Swift and Hyundai Grand i10. The price of the Tata Tiago starts from Rs 3.20 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi).
They will have to look into small niggles like the quality of the finished product, all said and done, the Tiago is Tata's best car made.
