Honda has revealed a new variant of the CRF1000L Africa Twin known as the Africa Twin Adventure Sports at the 2017 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy.
The Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports is an off-road focused version of the standard CRF1000L, and it comes with a host of cosmetic and mechanical updates.
The new Africa Twin Adventure Sports features a bigger 24.2-litre fuel tank, higher riding position, long-travel suspension, heated grips and extended fairing. The ground clearance has been increased by 20mm as compared to the base model.
The new adventure motorcycle is equipped with the ride-by-wire throttle, three riding modes, extra traction control levels and revised intake and exhaust. Honda states that the bigger fuel tank will offer a range of over 500km which is good for long distance touring.

The Africa Twin Adventure Sports draws power from the existing 998cc parallel-twin engine producing 94bhp and 99Nm of torque. Honda states that the modified airbox improves the mid-range and the revised exhaust offers an engaging exhaust note. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or an optional DCT automatic transmission.
On the design front, the Africa Twin Adventure Sports features a slightly revamped bodywork to accommodate the bigger fuel tank and a taller windscreen. The tail section is new, with the ‘Adventure Sports' logo. The motorcycle also gets bash plate and crash bars to protect the belly and bodywork.
Both the standard model and the Adventure Sports get the new lithium-ion battery which reduces the weight by 2.3kg. The kerb weight of the Africa Twin Adventure Sports stands at 243kg for the manual version and 253kg with Honda's automatic Dual Clutch Transmission system.
The motorcycle gets quick-shifter as an option for the manual variant. The Africa Twin Adventure Sports is equipped with 21-inch front and 18-inch rear stainless steel spoke wheels. The motorcycle will be offered in a new paint scheme to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original XRV650 Africa Twin.
