Top 10 Cars Of The 2017 Geneva Motor Show
We take a look back at the 10 of the best cars from the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
The 2017 Geneva Motor Show has come and sprinkled its fairy dust onto the automotive world leaving us bedazzled with the sheer variety that swept past our eyes and left us wanting more.
DriveSpark looks back at the biggest auto show of the year so far and picks out 10 of the best cars that grabbed our attention at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
10. Range Rover Velar
The all-new Range Rover Velar is the fourth SUV in the Range Rover lineup of SUVs from Land Rover and sits between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport.
While a coupe-SUV seems like sacrilege for many off-roaders, the Velar manages to pull off the look brilliantly. Land Rover claims the Velar retains the company's legendary off-road ability when faced with the rough stuff, something we hope to test once this new Range Rover comes to India.
9. Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet
Maybach is back and to celebrate the resurgence of the legendary luxury brand, German carmaker Mercedes decided to slap the Maybach badge on an off-roader for the first time.
The result, the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet, a huge SUV based on the G500 4x4², with a fabric top roof for the rear seats, which are the ones you would find on the S-Class.
Also present are portal axles, carbon fibre fenders and the twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V-12 engine from a Mercedes-AMG G 65. Only 99 will ever find a home, and all have found a home.
8. Fittipaldi EF7 Vision Gran Turismo By Pininfarina
Drivespark first clapped eyes on the Fittipaldi EF7 Vision Gran Turismo at Pininfarina's headquarters in Cambiano, Italy a few days ahead of the Geneva Motor Show.
These V8 powered aerodynamic beauty that is the Fittipaldi EF7 will be available in limited numbers for those who love to go mad on track while for everyone else one will be offered in the virtual world exclusively in the upcoming Gran Turismo Sport video game on Playstation 4. We suggest you get the game.
7. Mercedes-AMG GT Concept
Mercedes-AMG's going big with its hybrid game as it aims to get the best performance from the cars bearing its badge. The Mercedes-AMG GT concept sports a 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 and an electric motor that combine to kick out 804bhp.
Mercedes claims that the AMG GT Concept will sprint from 0-100km/h in under 3 seconds thanks to the F1-inspired powertrain. Other features include cameras instead of rear-view mirrors, a large carbon fibre diffuser with a centrally mounted exhaust and a big boot to carry the luggage.
Expect the GT to spawn a production car by 2018 which will challenge the Porsche Panamera in the slugfest to become the ultimate performance sedan for the businessman who loves to go fast.
6.
Honda
Civic
Type-R
Honda revealed the Civic Type-R at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, and at Geneva, the production-spec Civic hot hatch emerged looking as crazy as the concept car.
Powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, the manic Honda Civic Type-R kicks out 316bhp and 400Nm of torque. Add that to the wacky design (including that ludicrous rear wing), and you've got a hot hatch that will appeal to the 8-year old kid in all of us. Let's just hope it comes to India alongside the new Civic.
5. Tata Tamo Racemo
The Tata Tamo Racemo is the first sports car from a mainstream Indian car manufacturer, and it does look to be well worth the wait.
Powered by a turbocharged version of the 1.2-litre engine from the Tata Tiago which pushes out 186bhp and 210Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed AMT gearbox with paddle shifters.
Tata also revealed the Nexon compact SUV along with the Tigor 'Styleback' at Geneva ahead of their official launches later this year.
4. Maruti Swift
The upcoming Maruti Swift is a car we had been waiting to see on the show floor ever since it escaped out into the wild roads of Japan at the end of 2016.
The 2017 Maruti Swift's new design with its large grille and sporty bumper may not appeal to everyone. However, there is no denying the fact that it will sell like hotcakes when it finally enters India.
3. Ferrari 812 Superfast
The Ferrari 812 Superfast may seem like it had been named by a 10-year old, but it does live up to its name if the figures are anything to go by.
The 6.5-litre V12 engine pushes out 789bhp and 718Nm of torque to the rear wheels through a 7-speed gearbox which means that this final naturally aspirated V12 hurrah from Ferrari can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 2.9 seconds onward to a top speed of 340km/h. Superfast, you bet your bottom dollar it is.
2. Lamborghini Huracan Performante
While the Ferrari 812 Superfast may be quick, the Lamborghini Huracan Performante takes the speed game to a whole different level.
The Huracan Performante is the current king of the Nurburgring time sheets and blistered the Green Hell's tarmac with a lap time of 6:52.01 (412 seconds in total).
While the power may have just gone up by 28bhp, Lamborghini puts its angriest little bull on a diet ensuring that the Huracan Performante weighs in at 40 kilogrammes lighter than the standard car. Add in the insane active aero kit including that crazy wing at the back, and you've got the fastest production car to have ever lapped the Nurburgring.
1. McLaren 720S
The Lamborghini and the Ferrari are as mad as you can get, but then the McLaren 720S takes the insanity to another level altogether.
The McLaren 720S looks different from every other supercar that has left the Woking factory, and its eye-socket headlights give it a rather menacing character. It's almost like an attack dog; it looks like you have to treat it properly cause it may just bite your arm off if you don't.
Another interesting feature is the fact that the engine has grown and now is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that produces 711bhp and 770Nm of torque. Coupled with a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox, it allows the 720S to hurl itself from 0-100km/h in just 2.9 seconds with 200km/h flying by 4.9 seconds later. The McLaren 720S tops out at 341km/h.
