BMW i3 Electric Hatchback Spotted Testing In India; Possible Launch In 2019

The new 2019 BMW i3 has been spotted testing in India. The i3 hatchback was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo held in February. Although BMW did not have any confirmed plans of bringing the car to India.

BMW revealed their i3 and i3S models at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show. The 2019 version of the two models come with a host of upgrades and improvements compared to the previous generation.

According to Gaadiwaadi, BMW is likely to launch both the i3 and the i3S in India sometime in 2019.

The BMW i3 comes with a refreshed design. It offers a distinctive design with a sporty look. The front comes with BMW's signature Kidney grille and is flanked on either side with U-shaped LED headlights.

The sides of the BMW i3 offer a stream flow design for the windows, giving the appearance of a single surface. The car also offers coach doors allowing for easy entry and exit.

While the rear comes with 40mm larger bumpers with a diffuser-like design. The blue highlights on the BMW-i logo further accentuates the sporty characteristics of the hatchback.

The BMW i3S comes with a floor-mounted 33.2kWh lithium-ion pack and claims a total range of 280km on a single charge. It is powered by a revised electric motor producing 184bhp and 269Nm of torque.

The revised motor is said to produce 14bhp and 20Nm more power output compared to the previous version. The new motor also powers the car to a top speed of 160km/h with a 0 - 100km/h in just 6.9 seconds.

The BMW i3 also delivers a similar output. The standard i3 hatchback also gets the option of a range extending 647cc twin-cylinder petrol engine mounted at the rear.

The petrol engine helps the car generate electricity, however, it adds 120kg to the overall kerb weight. This translates to a slower 0 - 100km/h time compared to the i3S by 0.8 seconds.

The BMW i3 comes with a range of equipment, this includes a 10.3-inch infotainment system, BMW's iDrive software and smartphone connectivity with Apple CarPlay. The cabin of the i3 comes with Giga Brown Natural Leather, along with Carum Spice Grey Wool Cloth.
