The silhouette of the new Maruti Suzuki Baleno remains identical to the outgoing model. However, lots of design details have changed, giving it a refreshed design and stance. Up front is a sweptback headlamp which is sleeker than the outgoing model. The LED DRLs too are unique, but they could have been designed better.
On the side profile, the new Maruti Suzuki Baleno looks the same at first glance, but it now rides on more stylish diamond-cut alloy wheels. These wheels definitely make the hatchback look much better and add a lot more style to the equation. At the rear, the tail lamps are now sleeker and it is easier to spot the Baleno in a distance.
The interior of the new Maruti Suzuki Baleno looks more youthful. The flat-bottom steering is retained while the interior trim is now a sporty dual-tone Blue & Black. On the dashboard is a centrally-placed touchscreen infotainment system and the comfortable seats complete the whole package.
The new Maruti Suzuki Baleno is powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series Dual Jet, Dual-VVT engine. This four-cylinder unit puts out 88.5bhp at 6,000rpm and 113Nm at 4,400rpm. It can be paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT unit. Performance is adequate and the engine is one of the quietest in the segment.
Maruti Suzuki has now also introduced an S-CNG variant of the Baleno. It is powered by the same 1.2-litre engine, but it has been detuned to produce 76bhp and 98.5NM.
The 1.2-litre engine in the new Maruti Suzuki Baleno features the start-stop-idle technology. In addition, the engine itself is tuned more towards furl efficiency rather than outright performance. With this in mind, the excellent fuel efficiency figure of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is hardly a surprise.
Maruti Suzuki claims the new Baleno has a fuel efficiency figure of 22.35km/l for the manual gearbox and 22.94km/l for the AGS variant. The CNG variant has a claimed fuel efficiency of 30.61km/kg.
The new Maruti Suzuki Baleno features a 9-inch Smartplay Pro infotainment unit, 360-degree camera, head up display, Suzuki Connect, rear AC vents, steering mounted controls, etc. The list of features goes on.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has always been a favourite when it comes to premium hatchbacks. Now, with the arrival of the fresh new Baleno, buyers get more with the same car and that, is always a good thing.
