Piaggio Could Introduce The Fly 125 Scooter In India Soon
Piaggio is an Italian manufacturer of two-wheelers, and they have several sub-brands like Vespa, Gilera, Derbi, Moto Guzzi, Aprilia and Piaggio itself. They currently offer products in India as well, which include scooters, three-wheelers and superbikes as well.
Among their popular offerings in India are their Vespa scooters, which include Vespa LX, Vespa VX and Vespa S models. The Italian manufacturer has also launched a couple of special and limited edition models for India.
Piaggio has now imported their Fly 125 scooter to India for R&D purposes. There are only two explanations for this move, either the manufacturer is launching the scooter in India or plan to manufacture it here and export it to certain markets.
Scooter demand is at an all time high in Indian market. Currently several manufacturers are introducing more powerful scooters in India. Japanese manufacturers Honda and Suzuki have launched their Activa 125 along with the Swish 125 and Access scooters.
Vespa scooters in India also come with a 125cc single cylinder petrol engine. This machine produces 10 bhp, along with 10.6 Nm of peak torque and gets a CVT gearbox. Piaggio is expected to use the same engine, however, it will be a more mass-focused scooter and will be priced lower than Vespa scooters.
Piaggio is not expected to launch any new product soon and could be working on a future project in India. It would be great if the Italian manufacturer could offer a new product that is priced lower than Vespa. This will help in making Vespa a more premium and exclusive offering in India.
