Mahindra 160cc Motorcycle Under Development; Launch This Year
Mahindra Two Wheelers is currently working on a 160cc premium commuter motorcycle which it will launch either late this year or in early 2016.
This claim has been made in a report by Autocar Professional which cities an insider source. The same source also informs that "the utmost priority for the company [however] remains to roll out the ready 110cc scooter, which is squarely aimed at garnering volumes for them."
This 110cc scooter was initially scheduled for a December launch, which was then pushed to Auto Expo, but went missing even there.
The 160cc motorcycle is just the start as Mahindra Motorcycle has big plans to grow in this segment, in the coming years, as was previewed in its stand at the Auto Expo 2014.
The story continues in the next section. Click through the slides for more:
Mahindra Centuro, the company's best selling two wheeler, is the first in India to offer a wide range of electronic features. This is expected to become a Mahindra trademark, with all future models providing similar set of features.
Centuro jcMoto
The Centuro came in two avatars at the Expo. This first was a Cafe Racer. Built by Mumbai's jcMOTO, the Centuro Cafe Racer is 20 kilos lighter than the regular bike, by getting rid of nonessential parts and rebuilding existing parts with aluminium and fiberglass.
Centuro Scrambler
The other custom Centuro at the Expo was the Scrambler model. Built by Bombay Custom Works, this custom centuro has segment characteristic raised ground clearance, dirt tyres, leather seat and a raised exhaust.
Powered by a 295cc single cylinder, liquid cooled engine generating 28 bhp at 8000 rpm and 25 Nm of torque, the Mojo, in its production form, was finally displayed at the Expo. This time, wearing a headlight cowl. Unfortunately, there's still no news about when the Mojo will hit the road.
Future high performance Mahindra two wheelers will benefit from Mahindra's Moto3 association, in which it is a doing particularly well. Light weight & strong chassis, fuel & performance management ECUs & more can all come from Mahindra's Moto3 racer - MGP3O.
