Bajaj Auto Union Could Strike At Chakan Plant From April 28

Bajaj Auto's labour troubles could not yet be over. In a fresh announcement, the worker's union Vishwa Kalyan Kamgar Sanghatana (VKKS) has threatened to go on strike at the manufacturer's Chakan facility from April 28th. This time the union says the company is not utilising the corporate social responsibility funds for workers.

During the previous strike, which was withdrawn unconditionally, the union had demanded Bajaj shares be provided for free to all workers. This time around, the main demand is to get a share of the corporate social responsibility funds.

"The company has continued to harass workers and the situation is the same. Also, it is not using its corporate social responsibility funds for workers. Our demand is we must get a significant share of this fund," BS reports Dilip Pawar, president of VKKS as saying.

The company, on the other hand, seems determined to stand its ground. A company executive has said that financial loss to workers resulting from any strike would be the responsibility of the union. He also said that the company would not let production get affected by compensating for it through its other manufacturing facilities.

Around 850 workers are employed by Bajaj Auto at its Chakan plant near Pune, where the Pulsar, Avenger, KTM and Ninja branded motorcycles are manufactured.
