TVS Granted Patents For Hybrid Drive System — Sets Pace For Hybrid Two-Wheelers In India
TVS has been granted for a hybrid drive system, which was applied in 2008. Here’s more on what we can expect.
Chennai-based two-wheeler manufacturer TVS has been granted patents for a hybrid drivetrain, which will spawn a hybrid two-wheeler soon. The patents were applied back in 2008.
Back in 2008, TVS applied patents for a power propulsion system for a hybrid two-wheeler. The system uses a combination of the regular internal combustion engine along with an electric motor mounted on the hub. TVS even showcased a hybrid scooter during the 2012 Auto Expo, named the TVS Qube.
The advanced setup of using a conventional engine and an electric motor gives the scooter a boost in power, as well as gain maximum fuel efficiency.
Using a combination, however, has its problems. For starters, the battery pack adds weight to the vehicle and also increases maintenance and service cost.
The patent images reveal that TVS has done away with the gearbox, thus helping the manufacturer reduce weight and transmit better power to the wheel, owing to less mechanical parts.
