TVS Motor Company Gets Patent For Auto Hybrid Transmission System
TVS Motor Company has obtained the patent for the Automatic Hybrid Transmission system form the Chennai Patent Office.
The Chennai-based two-wheeler manufacturer, TVS Motor Company, has been always a step ahead in terms of new technology. Now, TVS is working on another game-changing technology.
TVS has got the approval from the Chennai Patent Office for Automatic Hybrid Transmission (AHT). AHT combines the Fixed Speed Transmission Mechanism (FSTM) and Continuously Variable Transmission mechanism (CVTM).
With the new AHT technology, TVS is striving to utilise the advantages of both transmissions. The FST and CVT have their share of positives and negatives and their own operating conditions to perform efficiently.
The CVT gearbox uses a belt to provide continuous variation, but the belt is prone to slippage at lower speeds.
But the FST transmission can have one or more fixed transmission ratios. But this will result in rough power delivery, although the initial acceleration will be better than CVT.
The drawback of the FST is that it has problems at high speeds and constant speed conditions. This is the area where the smart AHT comes into play. The new system can benefit from the combination of FST and CVT.
TVS also stated that due to design constraints, a standard CVT two-wheeler cannot be upgraded to AHT system. This is the reason for the need of a transmission system which will allow the installation of FST and will result in high transmission efficiency at all speeds.
