Top 10 Selling Two-Wheelers In India During 2016
Indicating the growing inclination towards scooters in India, Honda's Activa has outsold the longstanding top selling two-wheeler, Hero Splendor by a significant margin.
The financial year of 2016-17 should be seen as a significant shift in preference of customers in India. The two-wheeler market has moved away from motorcycles to scooters going by the sales of scooters in India.
As per Autocar Pro, Honda's Activa has outsold the longstanding top selling two-wheeler, Hero Splendor by a significant margin. This not only marks a change of preference in the two-wheeler market, steered by Honda Activa.
This also indicates a remarkable demographic shift that is frequently visible across urban and semi-urban markets in India.
Apart from the younger generation change in preference of scooter over motorcycle, independent, working women have fueled the growth of the scooter segment.
Additionally, convenient features over motorcycle have led the surge in growth of scooters. The automatic gearbox is said to be the most prominent feature in this aspect.
Coming to the sales number, Honda sold 2,759,835 units of Activa during FY2016-17, up by a substantial 11.90 percent compared to previous fiscal.
Second in line is Hero MotoCorp's Splendor which sold 2,550,830 units during the last fiscal. Completing the top 3 selling two-wheeler is Hero's HF Deluxe with sales of 1,408,356 units during FY2016-17.
While surprise entrant TVS XL came in fourth followed by Hero Passion, Honda CB Shine, Hero Glamour, TVS Jupiter, Bajaj Pulsar and Bajaj CT100 completing the top 10 selling two-wheelers.
The interesting aspect in this top 10 selling two-wheeler list is that some of the top 10 two-wheeler brands from FY2015-16 have held on to their respective positions in the list in FY2016-17 as well.
Thereby blocking the positions for other well-performing brands such as Royal Enfield's Classic 350, Bajaj Platina, Hero Maestro and TVS Apache.
