Top 10 Selling Two-Wheelers In December 2016 — A New Brand Enters The List
Despite demonetization, Royal Enfield Classic 350 broke into the top 10 selling two-wheelers in December 2016 ousting Honda CB Shine.
The sales of two-wheelers in the month of December 2016 suffered owing to the impact of demonetization, thereby registering a negative growth of 22.04 percent. Two-wheeler manufacturers sold a total of 910,235 units in December 2016.
Hero MotoCorp's Splendor was hit the most with negative sales growth of 27 percent. Even Honda Activa suffered negative growth of 20 percent.
Here are the top 10 selling two-wheelers in December 2016.
10. Hero Passion
Hero Passion took a massive hit with a de-growth of 56 percent in December 2016. Hero MotoCorp sold 24,672 units of the Passion when compared to 55,765 units for the same period last year. With lower sales, the Passion fell to 10th rank compared to 5th in 2015.
Hero sells the Passion in three different version: Passion XPRO, Passion PRO i3S and Passion PRO TR. The powertrain of the Hero Passion XPRO is an 110cc air-cooled single cylinder engine which produces 8.58bhp and 9.36Nm of torque.
9. Hero Glamour
Another bike which was impacted by the demonetization effect is the Hero Glamour with sales of 26,556 units in December 2016. Hero MotoCorp sold 48,748 units in the same period in 2015, registering a decline in sales by 46 percent comparatively.
Hero MotoCorp sells the Glamour in FI and carburettor models. The Glamour is powered by the 124.7cc air cooled single cylinder engine which develops 8.97bhp and 10.35Nm of torque. The Hero Glamour stood at 8th position in 2015 and dropped a place in December 2016.
8. Bajaj Pulsar
The Bajaj Pulsar is considered to be one of the most popular brands in India and performing well with sales of 32,252 units in December 2016. Despite the Pulsar registering negative sales growth of 5 percent, the brand is on this top 10 list when compared to last year.
Bajaj offers the Pulsar in various powertrains ranging from 135cc to 200cc engines. Recently, Bajaj Auto has revised all their brands in complaint with the Bharat Stage IV emission norms.
7. Bajaj Platina
The biggest performer on the list of top 10 selling two-wheelers is the Bajaj Platina with sales growth of 108 percent. Bajaj sold 33,845 units in December 2016 and entered the top 10 list.
Bajaj has powered the Platina with the 102cc air cooled single cylinder engine producing 8.08bhp and 8.6Nm of torque. The company claims a mileage of 90km/l for the Platina.
6. Royal Enfield Classic 350
Royal Enfield's best selling motorcycle Classic 350 entered the top 10 selling two-wheeler list for the first time since its launch back in 2009. The Classic 350 was one of the three which registered positive growth of 61 percent.
The company sold 38,080 units in December 2016 compared to 23,650 units in the same period in 2015. The Royal Enfield Classic 350 is powered by the 346cc air cooled single cylinder engine which produces 19.8bhp and 28Nm of torque.
5. TVS Jupiter
TVS sold 39,582 units of the Jupiter in the month of December 2016 while it sold 47,217 units in the same month in 2015, thereby registering negative growth of 16 percent. However, the impact of demonetization hitting most of the manufacturers, the Jupiter did well in terms of ranking, it moved up from 9th in December 2015 to 5th in 2016.
The stylish TVS Jupiter is powered by the 109.7cc air cooled single cylinder engine producing 7.88bhp and 8Nm of torque.
4. TVS XL Super
The other model to report positive sales in December 2016 is the TVS XL Super. TVS sold 64,161 units compared to 56,521 for the same period in 2015. The company registered a positive growth by 14 percent from the sales of the XL Super.
TVS has powered the XL Super with the 69.9cc air cooled single cylinder engine producing 3.5bhp and 5Nm of torque.
3. Hero HF Deluxe
Hero MotoCorp HF Deluxe stood its ground on the list with sales of 85,386 units in December 2016. The company sold 93,451 units in the previous period, thereby registering negative sales of 9 percent.
Hero has powered the HF Deluxe with the 97.2cc air cooled single cylinder engine churning out 8.24bhp and 8.05Nm of torque.
2. Hero Splendor
The humble Hero Splendor took a massive hit with negative sales of 27 percent even falling down the ranking in this list. Hero sold 135,104 units in December 2016 while it sold 184,856 units in the same month in 2015.
Hero Splendor is powered by the 97.2cc air cooled single cylinder engine producing 8.24bhp and 8.05Nm of torque.
1. Honda Activa
Honda Activa reclaimed the top position from Hero Splendor by selling 3,376 units more. In total, Honda sold 138,480 units of the Activa in December 2016, while it was able to sell 174,154 units in the same month in 2015. The company though registered a negative growth of 20 percent.
Honda sells the Activa with the choice of either the 109.2cc air cooled single cylinder engine producing 8bhp and 8.83Nm of torque, while the Activa 125 is powered by the 124.9cc air cooled single cylinder engine producing 8.60bhp and 10.12Nm of peak torque.
