MotoGP: Vinales Says ‘You Can’t Compare Yourself With Valentino’
"It’s impossible to feel like a star in this team. You can’t compare yourself with Valentino.”
Movistar Yamaha's new recruit Maverick Vinales admits that "it's impossible to feel like a star" while sharing the same pit with Italian veteran Valentino Rossi. Since joining the Yamaha squad, Vinales has shown everyone that he is fast and topped all the pre-season tests ahead of the 2017 MotoGP season.
According to many, Vinales is the man to beat in the 2017 MotoGP season. He said, "It's impossible to feel like a star in this team. You can't compare yourself with Valentino. He may struggle sometime and then next day he's is going to be at the front."
As we reported earlier, Rossi left the Phillip Island race track unhappy because of the lack of pace. The Italian was a second off the pace set by Vinales on the final of the second official MotoGP test of 2017.
On the other side of the garage, Vinales was setting fast laps and heating up the rivalry with reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez. He added, "I have a lot of confidence on this track, I feel very well. If you don't feel good enough here, it's difficult to ride fast, as you have to trust a lot on the front end.
"Honestly, I don't pay attention to what's going on at the other side of the garage, I'm focused on my job, which it is to take the most from my bike."
After the test at Phillip Island, Rossi stated that Marquez and Vinales are a class apart and their race pace is good. Reflecting on this comment, Vinales said, "At the moment, when you have that bike, everyone sees you there.
"All I can say is the bike is great, the team has a lot of experience, they are working, so the bike is there. I just need to ride fast and consistent. You never know, maybe we arrive at the first race and I'm struggling."
