MotoGP: Andrea Dovizioso Clinches Victory On Home Turf
Italian rider Andrea Dovizioso clinched victory at the Italian GP and recorded his first victory of the 2017 season.
It was an all-Italian combination which took victory in the sixth round of the 2017 MotoGP season. Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso won a thrilling race at his home turf.
Italian rider won the Italian Grand Prix by beating championship leader, Yamaha rider Maverick Vinales at the Mugello circuit. Ducati rider registered his first victory of the 2017 season.
Dovizioso was unlikely to challenge for victory a the Italian GP as he was suffering from food poison. His teammate Jorge Lorenzo took the early race lead as he passed Valentino Rossi on the second lap, but he couldn't hold on to the lead and faded away.
Yamaha rider Maverick Vinales was on course for a victory but Dovizioso pushed hard, and his pace was superior compared to the Yamaha rider.
Pramac Ducati rider Danilo Petrucci grabbed the final podium position making it two Ducatis in the top three positions. He was in second place for a brief period until Vinales passed him.
Valentino Rossi leads the race at the beginning of the race but couldn't keep up the pace. There was a battle for the third position between Petrucci and Rossi, but Ducati rider had the better of the Italian rider.
Aspar Ducati rider Alvaro Bautista finished in an impressive fifth position. Marc Marquez was in a distant sixth at the end of the race. Johann Zarco finished the race in seventh riding a Tech3 Yamaha.
The Italian GP victory was Ducati's first win at the Mugello circuit since Casey Stoner's win back in 2009. He was also the first Italian rider after Rossi to win on his home turf.
