A 2017 KTM Duke 390 crashed off theVeer Savarkar flyover on Karve Road in Pune at around 1 a.m. in the morning yesterday(May 15), killing the rider who was flung off the bike onto the road 40-metres below.
According to Rushlane, the victim, Ashutosh Phadke, the owner of Phadke Automobiles, was riding with his friend (who was on another bike) when he lost control of his Duke 390.
It is currently unknown what speed the victim was travelling at when he lost control of his bike, but it was enough to send him careening off the bridge despite the 2.5-foot thick cement walls of the flyover.
The victim's friend was the first to notice the crash and he rushed to his friend's aide. Soon, emergency services arrived and took the victim to the hospital where he was admitted into the ICU. Unfortunately, Phadke succumbed to his injuries and passed away soon after.
Phadke was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, however, the injuries to his body lead to internal bleeding which eventually resulted in him passing away. Phadke is survived by his wife and two daughters.
While the police claim that speed may have been the issue behind the crash, local media maintain that the bad state of the roads was the reason for the fatal crash. Pune, had also been lashed by rains a day earlier which could have worsened the conditions of the road.
