Honda To Manufacture Only BS-IV Compliant Two-Wheelers In India
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) will only manufacture BS-IV compliant two-wheelers in India from March 1, 2017.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) will be the second two-wheeler manufacturer in India, after Bajaj Auto, to manufacture only BS-IV compliant scooters and motorcycles.
This was stated by Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice-President (Sales & Marketing), HMSI in an official communication with Autocar India. Honda will start the production of the BS-IV only two-wheelers a month ahead of the given deadline.
Currently, HMSI has a production capacity of 5.8 million units across its four plants in the country located at Manesar, Haryana, Tapukara, Rajasthan, Kolar and Vithalapur, Gujarat.
Bajaj Auto has started manufacturing BS-IV only models two months ahead of the notified date. Similarly, Honda will be the second manufacturer to follow this rule a month ahead of its implementation.
On February 15, 2017, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto held a press conference to reveal that the company has started converting the existing BS-III models to BS-IV compliant models in September 2017. The process was completed in January 2017.
Senior Vice-President (Sales & Marketing), HMSI, Yadvinder Singh Guleria speaking to Autocar Professional, said, "We are prepared for the incoming deadline. For Honda, our market strategy is well placed for existing BS III stock and from March 1, 2017, we will be producing only BS-IV models."
He added, "Our first BS-IV model, the CB Hornet 160R was launched in 2015 and currently, more than 85 percent of our models are BS IV-compliant."
