Honda HRC Message Of Condolence, Following The Passing Of Nicky Hayden
Former MotoGP champion Nicky Hayden passed away on May 22, 2017, after a bicycle accident in Rimini Italy.
Hayden was an HRC rider for much of his career. He was also riding for Ten Kate Honda in the World Superbike Championship and won a race in his first season.
Hayden won the 1999 AMA Supersport Championship and the 2002 AMA Superbike Championship with the American Honda team. He was crowned as the 2006 MotoGP world champion riding for Repsol Honda.
Hayden collided with a car when he was cycling with his friends on May 17, 2017. He suffered severe head and chest injuries and was rushed to the hospital. His condition was critical as he suffered brain damage.
Honda Racing Corporation has stated the loss of the much-loved American rider is a big blow to the entire motorcycle community and also for everyone at team HRC.
HRC President, Yoshishige Nomura said, "On behalf of all HRC employees and our racing teams, I wish to express my deepest condolences to Nicky Hayden's family, his fiancee and his many friends."
Nomura added, "Nicky has been such a close friend and member of the HRC family that it's very hard to believe he is gone. Together we won two AMA titles and the 2006 MotoGP crown, and until his accident he was giving 100 percent to bring success to the Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team."
He further said, "At HRC we will never forget Nicky, who was very much one of us. Everyone at HRC is deeply saddened, but we will remember the many special memories we shared together with him. Our hearts and thoughts are with his family during this difficult moment."
