Honda Africa Twin To Be Launched In India By Mid-2017
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has revealed that the new Africa Twin adventure tourer motorcycle will be launched in India in mid-2017.
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is all set to launch its adventure tourer motorcycle, the Africa Twin in the Indian market. The motorcycle made its Indian debut at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi.
Honda will launch the Africa Twin in India by mid-2017. This was confirmed by the Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, Yadvinder Guleria.
Speaking to CarandBike, Guleria said, "We will launch the bike in the middle of 2017, and for India, we will bring the top-of-the-line variant." The adventure motorcycle will be brought to India as Completely Knocked Down(CKD) unit and will be assembled in the country.
The Honda Africa Twin is powered by a 998cc parallel twin, liquid cooled engine which delivers a power output of 94bhp and 97Nm of peak torque.
Globally the Africa Twin is offered in two variants - with a manual transmission and an automatic dual-clutch transmission (DCT). But for India, Honda will only offer the DCT variant.
The Africa Twin was supposed to be launched in India by the second half of 2016. But due to an earthquake near Honda's Hamamatsu plant, the production of motorcycle's key components got delayed.
When launched in India, the Africa Twin is expected to be priced around Rs 15 lakh to Rs 17 lakh. The adventure tourer motorcycle will compete against its segment rivals such as Triumph Tiger 800 series, Suzuki V-Strom and Kawasaki Versys 1000.
