Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (HMCL) sold a record 67,62,980 units of two-wheelers for the period January - December 2016, reporting its highest-ever sales in a calendar year.
The world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer reported a growth of 4.3 percent over the previous year (2015). The company sold 64,86,103 units of two-wheelers for the year 2015.
The cumulative sales for the company so far in the Financial Year 2017 has not increased to 50,24,129 units. Hero MotoCorp sold 3,30,202 units in December 2016 against 4,99,665 units for the previous year.
The drop in sales was attributed to company's manufacturing plants at Gurgaon, Neemrana and Haridwar being closed from December 26 - 31, 2016 on account of annual maintenance.
Hero MotoCorp's main driver in sales is the Splendor model which has been one of the top-selling two-wheelers in India. The company also sells other motorcycles and scooters in the Indian market.
The portfolio of Hero MotoCorp include entry-level Splendor to the top of the line Karizma ZMR and scooters include Duet, Maestro Edge and Pleasure.
Over the years, Hero MotoCorp has sold close to 70 million two-wheelers in its 31 years and has over 6,000 service centers. HMCL is present many countries around the globe.
Hero MotoCorp is also part of motorsports and currently is competing in the Dakar 2017 rally with riders CS Santosh and Joaquim Rodrigues J-Rod.
