Former Aussie Superbike Team Owner Rebuilds His Old Ducati Racer
Last May, Brown began reassembling a replica of one of the legendary superbike that the team has raced in 1986.
An Australian motorcycle enthusiast Bob Brown has built a replica race bike for a future movie. Brown was also the owner of the Brown Ducati Racing Team which dominated the Australian Superbike Racing series in the 1970s and '80s.
Brown recalled that in the old days the riders hated each other on and off the track. The Brown Ducati Racing's Ducati 760 and 850cc race machines were the ones to beat in that era. Japanese factory machines were finding it very hard to stop the domination of Brown's Ducatis.
"We had the fastest twin cylinder in Australia, and we had dominated the circuit for years, to the point it got boring," he said. The factory teams hated us especially when we won the Tom Phillis Memorial Race at Winton, which is like Bathurst.
"We prepared our bikes, and we beat the Japanese superbikes and their huge budgets - people still come up to me and talk to me about those years."
Last May, Brown began reassembling a replica of one of the legendary superbike that the team raced with in 1986. He finished reassembling the motorcycle last week.
He added, "It was an exciting time - we were the only ones in the world who could compete with the factory bikes. Back then it was all what you did with the bikes - there was a lot to racing especially character which isn't there now."
