BMW Motorrad Begins India Journey On A Commendable Note

BMW Motorrad biggest sales in India came from the BMW R 1200 GS and the R 1200 GS Adventure contributing nearly 60 percent of the overall sales.

BMW Motorrad entered India in April 2017 and buyers were more eager that its most affordable and entry-level naked sports bike G 310R would be launched. However, the performance bike brand chose to offer its premium bikes in the Indian market.

Well, the strategy seems to have paid off with BMW Motorrad selling 150 bikes in just two months since its debut in India. And 60 percent of its overall sales came from the BMW R 1200 GS and the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure bikes. The BMW S1000RR too performed well in the Indian market.

BMW Motorrad sells various models in five different categories.
But the most awaited is the G 310 R, which the company is yet to launch in India.

Presently, BMW Motorrad imports the bikes via the completely built unit (CBU) route, but the G 310 R is being manufactured in India in alliance with TVS Motors. With the localisation, the BMW G 310 R is expected to be priced competitively with the launch expected in 2018.

The reason for the delay in the launch of the BMW G 310 R is attributed to the lower dealerships in the country. The company is in the process of increasing the network before it can go the onslaught in the market.

DriveSpark Thinks!

BMW Motorrad is serious about its venture in India, and with the positive response that it has witnessed for its high-end bikes, it's only a matter of time before it can dominate the mass-market segment in India with the BMW G 310 R.
