The first-generation Yamaha R6 was launched back in 1999, and the company has sold nearly 1,53,000 motorcycles in the US market. The sales numbers bump to 3,89,000 in the global market.

5. The New R6 Is More Agile

Yamaha engineers have focussed on the handling of the motorcycle than the engine. The 2017 R6 has a 25mm axle a 3mm larger than the previous model. But the rigidity with the 43mm front forks was too much. So, the engineers lowered the triple clamp to compensate the effect.

3. 2017 R6 Gets Bigger Brakes And ABS

The new R6 gets more stopping power with 320mm discs up front. The fluid is sent to the discs by a Nissin master cylinder. The interesting fact is that the ABS is always on and there is no option to shut it off.

2. Lighter Tyres

The weight reduction on the new R6 is also achieved by lighter tyres as well. Bridgestone has fitted the S21 tyre on the R6 which is 800 grams lighter than the normal S21 tyre.
