Yamaha Factory Racing Decimates 2016 Suzuka 8 Hours Challenge
Yamaha took part in the 2016 Suzuka 8 Hours Challenge with three teams. The Yamaha Factory Racing Team once again won the Suzuka 8 Hours Challenge, thus making it two in a row. Riding for the Factory team were Pol Espargaro, Alex Lowes, and Katsuyuki Nakasuga.
Pol Espargaro repeated his pole position pace onboard the 2016 Yamaha R1. Katsuyuki Nakasuga managed to once again set the fastest lap time during the race. Other Yamaha riders also dominated the tough endurance race.
The Yamaha Factory Racing team dominated the entire race by lapping all contestants except for second place finishers. Kawasaki Racing team consisting of Akira Yanagawa, Leon Haslam, and Kazuki Watanabe secured second place at 2016 Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance challenge.
Espargaro will surely not be taking part in next year's Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance challenge with Yamaha. The Spaniard will be leaving Yamaha at the end of 2016 MotoGP Championship. Pol Espargaro will be riding for KTM Racing in the 2017 MotoGP Championship, alongside Bradley Smith.
Alex Lowes and Katsuyuki Nakasuga will most likely compete in the 2017 Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance challenge. At this moment it is unclear who will be the third rider in Yamaha Factory Racing outfit for the endurance race. We could see either Johann Zarco or Jonas Folger for the team next year.
