Yamaha has announced a new scooter called the Janus for the Vietnam market. The Janus will be powered by 125cc Blue Core engine, which features the Start Stop Technology.
Yamaha wiil be debuting its new technology on the Janus Deluxe and Janus Premium models. The Yamaha Start and Stop system will shut down the scooter's engine when it comes to an halt for more than few seconds, like waiting in a traffic signal. The outcome is reduced emmision levels and improved fuel efficiency.
Yamaha is not the only company to offer this technology. Honda had already introduced this technology on its PCX scooter in 2011. But it was not used in US models, as regulators did not make use of this technology on non-hybrid vehicles compared to Europe and Asia.
The Yamaha Janus will be available in three different trims. It will be produced in Vietnam, which has a very high motorcycle market. In 2015, it was reported that a demand of 2.85 million motorcycles were sold, with about one million of them being scooters. Targeted towards female riders, the Janus will weigh about 214 pounds (97kg), and will feature 14-inch wheels, and 14-litres of underseat storage.
The new scooter is priced at 27.49 million Vietnamese Dong (about Rs.82,500) for the standard version.
