TVS Motor Company has confirmed that it will be launching its first motorcycle in collaboration with BMW in the last quarter of this financial year January-March 2017.
TVS Motor Company CEO, S G Murali said that they will be launching the first motorcycle from TVS-BMW joint venture by February or March 2017.
The new motorcycle was previewed as the TVS Akula 310 concept, which will be the firm's flagship motorcycle model. ‘Akula' stands for ‘Shark' in the Russian language.
As per the reports the branding of the concept motorcycle showcased earlier will not be used on the production version but TVS will be rebranding the motorcycle as the TVS Apache RTR 300.
The TVS Apache RTR will be identical to BMW G310R in terms of mechanical components. The Apache RTR 300 will be benefited from the German developed chassis and engine.
Apart from the chassis, the braking and the suspension system are said to be in common with the BMW G310R. But the TVS version of this motorcycle is different which sports a fully faired design.
The TVS Apache 300 will be powered by 313cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine which produces 34bhp and 28Nm of torque. These figures are borrowed from the BMW G310R.
The maximum power produced, maximum torque and even the power delivery mapping is said to be altered for the TVS Apache RTR 300.
The engine will be mated to a six-speed transmission. When launched, the TVS Apache RTR will be a taking on the KTM RC 200. The Apache RTR 300 is expected to come with a price tag of around Rs 1.50 to Rs 1.75 lakh.
