TVS Motor: Premium Motorcycles Are The Future
“The youths in cities are looking for bikes that have power, style quotient, and innovative design.”
TVS Motor company is all geared up to launch its 310cc motorcycle, the Akula. The company believes that premium motorcycles are the future. It had already launched its premium Apache RTR 200 4v earlier this year.
Arun Siddharth, Vice-President, marketing of TVS Motor said, "The youths in cities are looking for bikes that have power, style quotient, and innovative design. Premium bikes above 150 cc meet these aspirations.
"The response to our new Apache RTR 200cc reflects this growing penchant Currently, we sell 4,000 units of the Apache RTR but we expect the volumes to move up to 8,000 units in the coming months and will reach 10,000 units in the season."
He also said that the 310cc TVS Akula will hit the roads before the end of this financial year. This motorcycle is the first from the TVS-BMW joint venture. "Even though both the companies will be using the same platform, each one of us will have our own approach to design and development of the products," he added.
Akula shares the same platform of the BMW G310R and it also sport the same engine. The motor is a 313cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that churns out 34bhp of power and 28Nm of peak torque.
When the Akula enters the segment, it will have to compete against the likes of Yamaha R3, Ninja 300 and the KTM RC390.
