Toby Price To Focus On Dakar 2017 After Baja 1000 Disappointment
KTM factory rider Toby Price will be focusing on Dakar Rally 2017 after disappointing Baja 1000 driving a truck.
Toby Price will focus on his Dakar Rally title defence after a disappointing run at the the Baja 1000 off road race driving a Ford truck.
The factory KTM rider teamed up with American Jesse Jones for the 1200km Baja 1000 off road event which begins and ends at Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.
Trouble hit Price and Jones when the driveline of their Ford truck broke down at 201km into the race. Price took over the wheel and drove till the 281km mark.
Bad luck hit the pair again when the second drive shaft of the truck gave away. And this was not the end of mechanical failures.
In the later stage of the rally Price clipped a rock on the road which resulted in power steering failure. With all the drama the crew dropped 161kms behind the field.
Finally, at the 837km mark, the crew had to retire the truck after they ran out of spare parts to keep the truck moving. Price was disappointed by this but said that this has helped his Dakar preparations and he was keen to return to Dakar next year.
Price said, "Now preparing for the Dakar Rally and getting really excited for that, there was some long days so it will all come in handy."
He added, "It's a bit of a bummer, but we were driving fairly well and hopefully we can come back to the 50th anniversary of the Baja 1000 next year and derive again." Price will continue his Dakar 2017 preparation as he is keen to retain the title on his KTM rally motorcycle.
