Things That We Learnt About The New Duke 390 From Spy Shots
Since it's launch in 2013, KTM Duke 390 revolutionised biking culture in India. A motorcycle which was launched for only Rs. 1.8 lakh became the best selling motorcycle under 500cc category in the country. But, the existing model has some issues like heating and vibration. We can expect that KTM has solved these issues.
So, straight to the point. Why are we here?
The answer is to find what KTM is about to offer in this new model. From the spy shots, it's very clear that there are a lot of changes. So here we go.
The Engine
The 4-stroke, single cylinder, liquid cooled 373cc petrol engine will be upgraded to satisfy the new Euro4 regulations. The current engine produces 43bhp and 35Nm of torque and with the new upgrade this figures may go up slightly. The engine will also have more stable combustion and fuel delivery will be more efficient.
Styling
The Super Duke inspired headlamp design are sharper and looks completely different from the current model. The petrol tank is also new and the cowls are much sharper than the existing one. Instead of having an underbelly exhaust, KTM decided to have a full-size exhaust. The tail section is completely different with a new LED tail lamp, rear mudguard and the subframe has been reworked.
Ride-by-wire Technology
This technology is used to deliver smoother acceleration and improved fuel economy. And don't be fooled by the name ride-by-wire, as wires are not the driving force behind this technology. The advantages of using this technology are
- Increase in fuel economy
- Smoother acceleration
- Enables ride mode control

New Instrument Cluster
Basically, the instrument cluster looks like an iPhone and it will have TFT colour display. We can hope that it would display lap time, 0-60 time and all the other features in the existing meter.
Tyres
KTM has swapped Metzelers for Michelin. This is one of the major changes that has been spotted.
The world debut of this next gen KTM Duke 390 is expected to be at EICMA 2016 in Milan. The global production base for the bike would continue at Bajaj's Chakan plant.
