2016 Movistar Yamaha YZR-M1 Unveiled By Rossi & Lorenzo
Movistar Yamaha organised an event on January 18, 2016, in Barcelona to unveil their new MotoGP bikes. The Japanese factory team is the first to showcase their 2016 YZR-M1 machine. Present at the event were Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi, along with several top team officials.
Surprisingly, Yamaha MotoGP Team has not changed the livery of their race machine. Officials believe that the 2015 livery that won them the Championship will be carried on. Yamaha explained that they did not want to change anything to replicate their bikes winning streak.
Yamaha also confirmed that only the livery has been selected for the 2016 MotoGP Championship. The team and riders are still undecided whether to use the all-new prototype bike or last years bike which was great in all regards.
Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo will continue testing both bikes and are expected to make their choice soon. Only a select few manufacturers are allowed to continue development of their bike during the season while the other are banned from in-season development.
For the 2016 MotoGP Championship, all teams have been put into a disadvantage with changes. The most important change will be the introduction of a unified ECU system by Magneti Marelli. Bridgestone also makes way for Michelin as the sole tyre provider in MotoGP.
