Slick Marquez Gamble Pays Off In Tricky Australian Qualifying Session
Marc Marquez has been strong throughout the weekend at the Phillip Island circuit in Australia. The 2016 MotoGP Champion grabbed pole position for the Australian GP with relative ease in tricky wet conditions. Repsol Honda rider gambled with slick tyres on a quick drying track.
Cal Crutchlow with his LCR Honda machine also looked menacing in the tricky conditions. The British-born rider managed to set second fastest lap time. He is the closest to Marquez and stands the best chance to compete with the Factory Repsol Honda rider.
Espargaro brothers seemed likely to secure front row positions for 2016 Australian GP. Pol Espargaro onboard the Monster tech 3 Yamaha was third fastest, while Aleix with Suzuki was fourth fastest. Aleix was closely followed by Pol which boosted him up in qualifying.
Home hero Jack Miller has managed to put his satellite Honda on to fifth place. Consider him to be a possible race winner at Australia if conditions deteriorate. Jack Miller has proved that he enjoys riding in wet conditions and winning his home race would be a dream come true.
Factory Yamaha riders seemed overwhelmed by the track conditions. Valentino Rossi did not even qualify for Q2. Rossi will start 2016 Australian GP from the fifteenth position, while Lorenzo starts from twelfth position. Valentino is a warhorse and will surely fight his way up during the race.
