The Much-Awaited Peugeot Scooters To Be Launched In India – More Details
The Peugeot Two-Wheeler department has been acquired by Mahindra. At the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi, Mahindra showcased Peugeot scooters alongside their own two-wheelers. Now, Mahindra is planning to launch the Peugeot branded scooters in India as early as 2017.
Mahindra plans to enter the premium segment of the two-wheeler market. The Peugeot branded scooters will be placed in the premium category. Currently, the premium scooter market is dominated by Vespa, and Peugeot would compete aggressively against them.
At the 2016 Auto Expo, Peugeot showcased the Metropolis, Speedfight, and Django scooters. These three scooters are currently on sale in Europe and are doing extremely well. In Europe, however, these scooters are priced higher than Vespa and Mahindra will have to price it right for India.
There is a high possibility that Mahindra will locally manufacture the Peugeot scooters to achieve competitive pricing. Peugeot could, later on, use the Indian facility as a centre to export its scooters. For now, their focus will be to enter the Indian market as soon as possible.
Currently, Mahindra's flagship model, the Mojo is doing as expected in the Indian market. Mahindra recently announced that it has managed to sell just one million two-wheelers in India till date. Stay tuned for more updates from Mahindra as well as Peugeot Scooters.
