2 Helmets Needed To Register New Bikes In Karnataka
If you are looking to buy a new two-wheeler in Bangalore or anywhere else in Karnataka, you may soon need to prove that you own two ISI certified helmets at the time of purchase.
The transport department is looking to implement the rule which is currently being piloted by the Davangere Regional Transport Office. The reason for the rule is the Supreme Court order which made helmets mandatory for pillion riders in January.
Speaking to ET Auto, Commissioner for Transport & Road Safety, Bagalore, Rame Gowda said, "Now that the rule is in place all over the state for both rider and pillion, asking vehicle dealers to provide helmets may mean owners being fleeced. That's why we want to ask owners to show they own helmets while getting their two-wheelers registered."
It is not known when the rule will go into effect but it could be quite soon thanks to the Davangere experiment.
