2016 Intermot Motorcycle Show: Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP Unveiled

The new Fireblade SP brings in a whole host of changes to the previous edition of the superbike like semi-active suspension, a big drop in weight and a ride by wire system.

Powering the new Fireblade is an inline-four cylinder engine with a 76mm bore and 55.1mm stroke which displaces 999cc. The manic engine produces 189bhp @13,000rpm and 116Nm of torque @ 11,000rpm.

The new Honda superbike has undergone a serious diet and has lost 15 kilograms and now weighs in at 195 kilograms, thanks to some clever weight saving tricks like the new 16-litre titanium fuel tank which is 1.3 kilograms lighter than the ones on the previous bike.

The new Honda Fireblade is loaded with tech. It features a Ride-by-wire derived from the road-going replica of the Honda's MotoGP bike the RCV213-S. Also present are five different riding modes: three predefined and two user-configurable.

Other tech includes the Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) traction control system and three levels of Honda's engine braking system — Selectable Engine Brake.

The new CBR1000RR features a trick semi-active suspension setup consisting of 43mm NIX30 Ohlin upside down forks up front and an Ohlins TTX36 monoshock that is controlled by the Suspension Control Unit.

There are three semi-active modes: Fast, Enjoy and Safety and three manual modes where the rider can choose how pliant the suspension setup should be.

Honda also revealed the homologation special for its WSBK challenger in the form of the CBR1000RR Fireblade SP2.

The SP2 can be distinguished by the blue stripes, amore distinguishable carbon-fibre weave and lightweight 7-spoke Marchesini wheels.

The SP2 also features a few hidden tricks like improved cooling a different electronics management system to help it perform better on the track.
