Honda Looking At Launching Metropolitan Retro-Scooter In India
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India is rumoured to have patented a scooter, called the Metropolitan scooter, which is most likely to be launched in the Indian market. An all-new scooter will further expand Honda's scooter range in the country.
The Metropolitan scooter is a retro-styled model from Honda. Internationally, Honda equips the Metropolitan scooter with a fuel-injected 50cc engine. In India, however, the Metropolitan is most likely to use the trustworthy Activa engine.
The Activa is powered by a 109.2cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. Honda's engine produces 8bhp, along with 8.83Nm of torque. A top speed of 82km/h can be achieved on the Activa and the engine is equipped with a V-Matic transmission.
The Metropolitan scooter will be positioned below Honda's Activa 125 scooter in India. In terms of styling, the Honda Metropolitan will adorn a retro persona. Honda will design the scooter from scratch and it is not likely to bear any resemblance to the Activa range in the country.
Once launched, the Honda Metropolitan will take on the likes of Yamaha Fascino and Suzuki Access. Honda will also have to compete with TVS Jupiter and Suzuki Maestro Edge scooters. In a way, the Metropolitan will also compete with Vespa scooters sold in the Indian market.
