Honda Activa Becomes Best Selling Two-Wheeler In January 2016
Honda 2wheelers sold more than 2 lakh units of the scooter in January 2016, becoming the No.1 selling two-wheeler in India for the 5th time in 2015-16.
Activa is the highest selling two-wheeler in the country selling 210,123 units in January 2016 alone. It also became the only two-wheeler to cross 2 lakh mark, this is nearly four times its nearest competitor.
In its press release, the company stated that the sales are so huge, that all its four manufacturing plants churn out the Activa to meet customer's demand.
Yadvinder Singh Guleria, senior VP for sales & marketing at Honda Motorcycle & Scooter said, "For Honda, 2016 is a landmark year and the positive momentum will only grow further. Honda's new 4th plant in Gujarat - its first scooter only factory has started commercial production in January 2016. This is a GAME CHANGER. The additional capacity will help us to spread 'Scooterization' even to the last mile network and serve our customers with speed. Parallely, this plant now allows us to optimize production of motorcycles with special focus on recent fun motorcycle launches viz. Livo, CB Shine SP and CB Hornet 160R."
The company has contributed immensely to the industry figures in terms of sales by adding 2 percent points to 30 percent for FY'2015-16. This number is contributed only by the automatic scooter. The motorcycle segment of the company too saw success as well with the all-new launch of Livo 110cc and the popular CB Shine 125cc.
The Livo 110cc motorcycle has crossed 1 lakh units in the short span of its launch in the country. This comes in the backdrop of the declining sales demand by -6 percent. The CB Shine too notched up sales of 76,562 units reclaiming the premium segment top spot. This is a 23 percent jump taking the Japanese manufacturer to hold 46 percent of the market share.
